Many people think that the bass guitar is easier than the guitar. However, this may not necessarily be true. If one were to play bass for the first time, they would probably say it’s easy because there are only four strings and you don’t have to press down hard on them as you do with a six-stringed guitar.
Some of the biggest names in bass include Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report), Geddy Lee (Rush), John Deacon (Queen), Roger Glover (Deep Purple) Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) and Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers). When each person was asked if the bass was harder or easier than a regular guitar, they responded that it was harder.
In the very beginning, it’s easier to play bass. There are fewer strings and it isn’t as hard on your fingers because you only have to press down a lot on four of them. However, once you get into playing, there is a lot more going on with the bass. The syncopated rhythms that go along with songs make it harder than regular guitar even though they aren’t strumming chords or anything like that. In order to truly master bass, one would have to learn how to do both of these things simultaneously so their rhythm stays consistent while still being able to add in some extra notes for flair from time to time. This requires a great amount of skill and practice which makes bass harder than a regular guitar in the long run.
In the end, it really depends on what you want to get out of playing an instrument. If you’re just looking to have some fun and make some noise, then bass might be the way to go. However, if you truly want to become a skilled musician, the guitar may be a better option for you. It all comes down to what you’re willing to put in the time and effort to learn. Bass is definitely not an easy instrument, but with enough practice, anyone can become a great bass player!
